Grief-Fit

My Story

In 2011, my brother Joshua was tragically killed in a road traffic accident while travelling in Vietnam. His sudden death shattered my family’s world.

In the months that followed, I fell into a deep depression. Life felt unrecognisable. But with the support of those closest to me, therapy, and my firm belief in the benefits of exercise to mental health, I slowly began to rebuild.

Swimming, running, cycling—none of it changed what had happened. But it gave me space. Space to grieve, to breathe, and to feel close to Josh. Exercise became my place of solace and connection.

That experience changed me. It’s why I created Grief-Fit — a 9-week remote programme that combines physical fitness, mental health, and self-care, designed especially for bereaved parents and siblings. Grief-Fit helps channel the energy of grief into exercise and movement, creating space for healing, connection, and renewed strength.

Grief-Fit is one of the support programmes offered by my family charity, The Good Grief Project, founded in 2016 to channel our own grief into meaningful help for other bereaved families.
